“It has been my dream to save the world. Who doesn’t want their children to grow up in a world that is better. Right now energy conservatorship is and has to be a priority. Today I make a vow to not just Atlas Falls underprivileged community Scottwood but to the world. DGI is beginning a new transition from the old to a new brand to become a company to push technology, innovate weaponry for the military, and innovate how we use energy in this day and age to make the… God do I sound pollyanna? I mean I don’t want to keep saying make the world a better place. We are capitalists and people will see through it if it feels inauthentic. I believe in what I’m doing. I just don’t like speeches. Can you do it?”  Jackson stumbled as he flopped on the couch looking at his wife and best friend. He didn’t know how to give a speech. Hell Chauncey exemplified this shit, he schmoozed with the best of them. He was good at business, not so much at giving speeches.  As he stared at Dani he walked up to her and wrapped his hands around her waist. “We haven’t had much daddy and mommy time and I miss mommy you know that?”

He picked up his glass of water and took a drink. “My dad is dying. My mom called me yesterday and he visited her and I feel like shit keeping the twins away from him. He’s dying and I need them to have a picture with him. Or something you know? How would they deal with knowing I kept them from the great Lowell Devonshire. I can’t believe I’m saying that.” He lowered his head as Jackson exhaled. He wasn’t ready to cry but the feeling was overwhelming. He was about to lose his father and that was a crushing feeling. “I miss him, you know? His crabby ass attitude and his laugh. I haven’t heard my dad laugh in a long time. Anyway we aren’t here to mope. I don’t want to talk about this. I want to talk about my wife doing this speech because she’s used to talking to people. She’s used to making everyone fall in love with her. I just think my wife needs um to do this speech for her husband. What do you think?” He held her in his arms. “We have to take time for ourselves. Donovan and Jolene will be okay, you know? We have mom, Bliss, Hunter, Walter, your mom, and so many others come on we have to take care of mom and dad too. DGI and babies be damned.”

Dani wasn’t sure how things got so off was a good word. She was working so much trying to juggle the charity event on top of making sure everything was ready for the summit and their next acquisition in Montana with Grant Johnson. Maybe she had taken too much on at once when it came to trying to help Jackson but she didn’t want him to worry about it or her she could handle it. When he started to read his speech she watched him as he spoke. She could tell that he was nervous about it and mentally made a note that on top of everything else on her schedule she’d look over the speech and adjust it. She knew that speeches were not his cup of tea and she’d written some of the best for Charles when she worked for him, she could do the same to help him. “No I don’t think it sounds pollyanna, it shows that you are passionate about what we are doing here. It just needs some refining before the summit, that is all.” She almost snorted when he asked if she would do it, it had to be him not her to show the entire world and his siblings he was ready to take over. “I’ll tell you what I’ll be on stage with you when you read it, I want this to be your moment. It needs to be your moment, not mine.”

They hadn’t talked a lot about Lowell or his entire relationship with his father but she had taken his side over Jackie’s when it came to the twins. He didn’t want Lowell near them and as her husband she respected his wishes. She hadn’t pushed or prodded about it but deep down she wanted Jackson to change his mind but on his terms not hers, life was far too short her family knew that better than anyone especially after her sister died. She saw him tearing up and placed her hands on the back of his neck, leaning her head in to comfort him about Lowell and wondered if now was the best time to speak up on it. “I think maybe you and your dad should talk if you’re ready, I haven’t been pressuring you about it and you know I have your back either way but Jackson he is dying. I don’t want you to regret anything down the line when it comes to your dad. If you want him around and to see the twins I’m okay with it.” She said looking at him she’d still respect his wishes either way but it was his choice one she wouldn’t stand in the way of. She felt his hands on her waist and relaxed. They really hadn’t focused on that in what seemed like forever, not that it happened intentionally from either of them she supposed. They both were working non stop and with Dru around they were careful after the time she walked in on them. “I know we need to be better at time for us.”
