DELACROIX ESTATE; KITCHEN

The smell of honey baked ham with pineapples and cloves had filled the kitchen. As Marvin Gaye ‘What’s Going On’ echoed in the speakers above her head. This was the first time her father wasn’t cooking Thanksgiving and it was on her. Jamal had asked her to come to his home and cook. She wanted to see everyone because things were becoming to raw with Dimitri. Ever since the first time he assaulted her he’d become more sadistic. Just this morning he slapped her around all over the hotel room. Her lip was busted and her eye black. She’d covered it the best she could, her bang covered her eye and dark lipstick on her lip. It was still noticeable but she couldn’t help but hide it.  She was just focused on making the best Thanksgiving meal because her father wasn’t in attendance. As she walked to the oven she looked at the turkey and began to baste the turkey. Taking a bite of the dressing she knew it was done as she took it out of the oven. Exhaling she heard someone at the door and looked up at her brother and Zach walking in. Jamal was picking up some sort of surprise and his mom. She talked to him on the phone earlier.

“Hey I’m just getting the pies out right now. The turkey and ham almost done. I pulled out the dressing and the greens are still cooking. We have potato salad, deviled eggs, spaghetti, baked macaroni and cheese, I got cakes, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and all type of other type of treats and appetizers since daddy isn’t coming this year.” She hadn’t looked up at Mason or Zach as she kept going. “I just want it to be perfect because we all have so much going on you know? We don’t get to see each other. And I know you are so mad at daddy but I miss him.” Selina covered her mouth knowing that she was just compensating for the pain she was in. She was shaking and she saw Mason moving closer to her. “I’m fine Mason please just give me a moment.” Selina couldn’t help it before she knew it she collapsed to the floor and she felt Zach holding her. “I’m okay.” She said looking at Mason who was staring at her face too hard.

Jamal had Val hand as he walked into his condo kitchen. He had his father outside ready to apologize to not just Mason but them all. When he saw Selina on the floor he began to move closer to his sister and let go of Val hand. “Val go get my mom and tell her to come in the kitchen.” He watched Val rushing off to get his mom who was setting the table and setting the Mexican side of Thanksgiving. The tamales, chilaquiles, mole, and elotes were his favorite mixing soulfood and his momma Mexican cooking. When he got closer to Selina he saw her eye and lip he looked at Mason and Zach with concern in his eyes.

“Selina, sis you been throwing down in the kitchen pops would be proud.” He said looking at her crying hysterically on the floor he looked at Mason and he began to feel her pain. Stooping down by Mason and Selina he sat Indian style and looked at his beautiful big sister. “Selina your eye um sis. Your eye looks like it’s black and your lips is clearly busted. I don’t want to make any assumptions but you on the floor crying in Mason arms and you look like this. Is Dimitri? Is the motherfucker beating on you Selina?”

It all seemed to pour out of her because Mason and Jamal were mirrors she couldn’t hide from. Especially Mason the way he looked at her she knew it all had to come out. “I’m not this woman Mason. I’m not this girl who gets abused by her lover oh my God. I’m being beaten and I don’t know how to get away. He’s everywhere and I’m so scared. He’s going to kill me one day and the way he talks about Bliss and that baby. Oh my God I shouldn’t have doubted her. What kind of woman does that? What kind of woman does that? I’m Selina Delacroix how could this be happening to me? I’m not supposed to be beaten.” She began to bawl into Mason shoulder.

Bellview Psychiatric Facility; Los Angeles, CA

Jackie had been dreading this moment in her life where she was faced with the truth it was something that had been planned in secret for weeks. She had wondered if Lowell would look into the flight information on the company jet or not. Either way it was something that had to be done, he could proclaim his innocence all he wanted but soon the truth would come out. They were not speaking and she wondered how their marriage over the years had come to this, separate rooms with cold and uncaring walls. Children ripped right down the middle on their loyalty to either her or her husband. She could tell the way they looked at her some with love and adoration others with confusion and it was the same with Lowell. Wrapping her scarf over her head as she and Lauren arrived at their destination she braced herself.

Together they walked through the massive halls for the Bellview Psychiatric facility to the waiting room where she sat silently by Lauren and waited. In many ways it was odd for her to finally have this time with Lauren and their newfound friendship, it took years and pain between them to actually make that mend. So much time she had wasted and pushed aside thinking that Gloria was her best friend only to learn recently of the lies that she had told Lowell and Lauren about her and Walter. She tapped her foot on the floor and wondered how long they would have to wait if they would even be able to see Katie today or not. Her sister’s mind was often at times taken as frail and unpredictable, she had been denied before when it came to her sister and visiting. It was the last time she was here shortly after the twins were born she had been compelled to fly out and see her wanting her to know about her nephew and she had needed space from Lowell at the time. She had been so wounded from his latest betrayal with Tess with Bliss so she had come here, she was taken out of her thoughts when a man spoke.

“Mrs. Devonshire. I’m Dr. Rutherford please come with me.” The man said and she looked at him he looked so much like Simon and that is when it clicked with her that it was Julian.

“Julian? Where is Dr. McAndrews?” Jackie asked looking up at him and over at Lauren.

“Dr. Andrews passed away a few months ago I began taking over of his case files. It is nice to see you Jackie I only wish perhaps under better circumstances.” Julian replied as he watched her looking at the woman that she was with. “Unfortunately your guest will have to remain here Katie has only agreed to see me and yourself.”

MONTGOMERY ESTATE; LIVING ROOM

Charles Hessington stood in front of the media declaring his plans on running again and retiring in the next four years. It was brave to admit you were past your prime and that was something all his peers were facing. Steven dead, Harvey gone, Lowell was dying, and he was still here. Forbes sat looking at himself in the mirror as the reflection of the man staring back at him still had years. Years to finally beat the man that had haunted him over and over again. It hurt him to know that Lowell wouldn’t be around to see him conquer his kingdom but if rumors were true he’d get the last laugh. He didn’t know if he believed it but Lowell dying could mean he’d finally be rid of him by fate. Destiny had a funny way of showing that it had the last word in any conversation. Walking to the bar he looked at the morning news and he felt the need to drink. A man’s mortality is the one thing that they couldn’t beat. Pouring himself a drink he walked through his house he saw Philip with his physical therapist in the gym, and Belle was in the indoor pool. He missed Cassie being in the house he needed as many voices as possible. Audrey always haunted him here, he could smell her perfume in the hallways always. He’d dealt with two women that were incomparable Audrey and his current wife Angelica. One because he was haunted that she never loved him and one because he knew how dangerous she truly is.

As he walked to his room Forbes began his morning ritual of showering, shaving, and getting dressed. Once done he sprayed on a thick cologne his father taught him years ago a man should be smelled before seen. Walking down the stairs he heard a loud crashing sound as he saw her standing there looking furious. This is why he was determined to have Belle keep a low profile but she couldn’t. She slammed his Ming Dynasty vase which cost more than that garish jewelry she wore. Tess stood before his butler Nigel who looked mortified. “Don’t worry Nigel, she’ll replace that. She is a fan of high art so I assume she has something of relevance to replace that most valued piece of mine.” As he walked down the spiraling staircase he stopped at the last step. “Tess what can I do for you? I mean I know you have your demons but coming to my home to destroy priceless artwork is a little beneath you after all you are Lowell’s newest oldest plaything aren’t you? Now that his marriage is on the skids.”

Tess unbuttoned her Burberry petticoat trenchcoat never removing her destructive glare at Forbes. This could ruin their entire scheme because he was being greedy. She wasn’t planning on bringing Belle to Atlas Falls until at least Valentine’s Day to finally admit her to Lowell. By that point then they could be in good standing. Secrets could destroy everything she was building with Lowell. Not only that she had her shot. After almost thirty years of being second to Jackie, she had her shot to be with him. How could she just let that go? How could she not take this opportunity to finally see herself as Ms. Devonshire? She wanted to name and all the power that came with being Lowell’s wife. She deserved it and when she brought Belle into town she was going to stop Zerick claims. Tess had her own plans but this had changed everything thus Pierre returning to Atlas Falls was needed and she was going to see him soon. They all had put so much into grooming Zerick and even if he didn’t know that she’d invested into him. Now it was time to reap the rewards. Kathleen was her friend so long ago and now she was going to repair everything when she finally got what she wanted. She was going to give Katie peace and tear apart Jackie and Lowell. Then marry him dying or not she would be his wife.

“You’ve left me blind about my own child being in town?” Tess said stepping over pieces of glass and throwing her trench coat at Nigel. “I’ve had enough of you going off course with our plan. I refuse to sit back and let you have my child in town and not even let me know. How dare you Forbes, how dare you!” Tess immediately walked to Forbes and slapped him. Seeing that smirk remain she slapped him again and this time she saw he was pissed. Good, she wanted him to feel her wrath because who did he think he was? “You have some balls Forbes Montgomery! We crafted a scheme years ago to make sure we all got what we wanted. Now you are moving very fast and off-kilter changing as you see forth. No, that won’t do with me and if you ever and I mean ever pull one of my girls into this mess without my knowledge then I’ll destroy you. I unspool every sin you have spun in your web of treachery. You know which ones I’m talking about.” Tess declared defiantly.

ST. CHRISTOPHER’S

Lowell tucked in his shirt and felt like the latest rounds of tests and blood work would slow down the disease. After being alone with David he felt like his ALS was taking over. How couldn’t he his days were numbered and it felt like more and more he was growing restless with life. He could feel his soul slipping away from his body and it wasn’t as if he had no chance of stopping the illness. It was cruel to deny him a  chance to fight back. He cursed his body secretly because why couldn’t he have cancer? It was morbid to question that but this illness and disease will take him out and all he worked for would never be seen. Honestly, his mind had been on Linus deeply because of their last fight. He protected his baby brother and also kept him away from DGI America. His sins had followed him even though Linus promised he’d stop. He wondered how his mother and father would feel about their sons? It was a legit question and since time was precious he’d soon find out and that brought a chill up his spine. Walking to a water pitcher he poured him a glass of water in a crystal glass. The coldness calmed the heat on the back of his neck. Sin and secrets the two things you couldn’t hide for long. It made him feel foolish for some of the things he did.

Tonight he was reaching out to Simon to help him do his last will and testament and he’d also explain what was going on and pick his successor. Simon would be the only one who knew and that would be a secret to hold but it was what he was paid to do. Hold their secrets and protect them and this would be one of the times he desperately needed him. Walking out of the office he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Two nurses and David were trying to stop her but she looked even more ravishing than when he met her in Europe again. He was in London on business with Linus and this was what he found. Tess a grown woman and not only that but a radically stunning one. Even today when she didn’t have her signature long blonde hair and it was now a short chic cut she was striking. The feelings he still had for her were wrong and he knew it. It was horrible to love two women but they didn’t know the Tess he did. She wasn’t always so hard, so evil, and so hurt. He did that to her and he knew when a woman was scorn or fed up it was nothing you could do about it. Somehow Jackie and he had never gotten to that point and it was her grace. This Zerick lie had painted them through a dark lense and he wouldn’t wonder why she was standing by him now.

Tess saw Lowell walking out looking frail and she couldn’t help but wonder why he was in the hospital so much. She was worried, to be honest, and hadn’t even told Pierre or Forbes what her suspicion was because the thrill of something honestly being wrong with him would be legit. She might want nothing but his health to be fine. No longer willing to wait. Tess arrived at the hospital after Bliss made an offhand remark about Lowell’s appointment. Wearing a couture women’s business suit by Chanel and a Balenciaga hat with a veil covering half of her face. Standing with leather red gloves she broke free from the nurses grasps and looked at him. “We will speak immediately. We have children also Lowell shall you not forget I’m the mother of your kids also.” Tess said purposely speaking in plurals so maybe he’d catch a hint. She’d hidden Belle from the right people but Dimitri was in town, along with Pierre, and Forbes knowing the truth. That wasn’t something she wanted to get to him before she could tell him. “We need to speak immediately Lowell and I won’t take no for an answer!”

Walking to him she strutted like Gisele Bundchen knowing how much he used to love her walk. He used to say she could walk into any room and demand attention with her walk. Exhaling she touched Lowell’s face and turned to the nurses and David. “Go! We have something to discuss and I told you I’m just as important as Jackie. From now on listen to me.” Lowell let her through as she walked into the private room which was stunning. Of course, he would have a luxury private room that didn’t surprise her. She sat down on the plush leather couch and crossed her legs. “Tea please, and I don’t you think I deserve to know what is going on? You’ve lost at least twenty pounds. You look fragile and Bliss is crying about you and how she didn’t have enough time. She hung up on me after that. What the hell is going on Lowell Devonshire and don’t give me I’m not Jackie or the wife shit. I spent over thirty years as your mistress and lover. No excuses.”

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK

The funeral was covered with wall to wall factions of mobsters. Thor was almost shocked to see so many big influential people were here. Vladimir Stavridis was standing speaking with Kelly O’Connor, and Mavis Escobar was standing over speaking with other influential people. The cartel was in the building. The flow through New York was stagnant due to one person Don Falcone refused to let Madden push drugs through the city. He held a hate for father but oddly they had been invited to the old man funeral. That made him suspicious until this moment it was a goodwill gesture all around due to The Cartel stop selling to Don Falcone. It was a lot of bad blood but Gia was said to be in charge now. So her arrival as the signal of true change between the Falcone and Madden families. Thor nodded at them all with a stern glance at Vladimir who always gave him the creeps. He looked evil and that glare was so cold. It was something almost not human about that guy. Rumor had it about ten years ago he went to war with the O’Connors and it ended at the beginning of the cartel being formed. He tried to take over Cape Kenitrich from Kelly and it ended with him leaving and taking over the midwest. The truce has been lucrative for them by forming a cartel of enemies. During the infamous east coast vs west coast rap feud, it was escalated by his father going against The Bay’s very own Mavis Escobar. This blood feud died when his father did during Ronan’s courting by Kelly they brokered peace between them and Ronan became the east coast connect. It was history in the underworld.

Thor looked over at his brother and his breath was taken back. Damn nobody told them, Don Falcone, daughter looked like something out of an art portrait. She was stunning and just standing there with a veil that fell to the floor, along with a leather dress with a train longer than the veil. It was no doubt from Italy because the leather corset was impeccably made. He looked over at Ronan and wondered what he thought. She was something to look at because both of them were taken back. Thor had heard her beauty had gotten her the head of the Genovese faction her beauty caught them all off guard because she turned out to be a black widow. Thor was captivated but also cautious because plenty of men dicks had gotten them murdered. It was every day they were in the presence of a modern-day siren. He looked at Ronan and he knew what he was thinking. “Down doggy,” Thor said shaking his head.

Gia purposely ignored the two Madden heirs as they entered the funeral. Watching them pay their respects to the who’s who of mobsters in the United States and all over the world. Her father was beloved by many and hated by few. The room was hazy from cigar smoke her father’s favorite cigars from Cuba. Slowly making her rounds she saw people she hadn’t been around since she was a girl. Old hit men and others were the still in the game. Gun runners, drug dealers, and powerful politicians even sat at this funeral. Her father legitimized his business in the eyes of many. It was her grooming for the life of violence that got her ready to take over. She was now in many eyes one of the most powerful women in New York City. Manhattan was her playground but she wasn’t here for Manhattan she was here for the entire east coast. One man stood between her and that, Ronan Madden. Looking at him in person he was much more handsome than his pictures along with baby half-brother. Turning her body around she slowly slithering toward the Madden brothers. Approaching them she extended her hand which was wrapped in wrist length lace gloves and diamonds.

“Good evening welcome to the service.” Gia shook Thor hand as she leaned in to kiss both of his cheeks. Then turning to Mr. Madden her eyes locked in through the lace that covered her face. Her crimson lips painted glossily. “Mr. Madden I would like to speak with you alone. I know your brother is here. How about we all go have a drink in my office.” Basically saying that she knew he didn’t trust leaving Thor here with her men surrounding him. She sensually slinked toward the back never walking too fast or slow so neither men touched her gown or veil. Walking to her desk she pulled back the chair. Her eyes narrowed softly as she smiled at them. Carmine poured them all Manhattans drinks. “My father was a powerful man. I’m an even more powerful woman and our family history shouldn’t and if I have my way shall not stop us from making money. Money from Canada that the Genovese family has control of.”
