Ophelia was born in San Bernardino, California to Luis and Vivian Cameron who emigrated from Mexico City to America while Vivian was pregnant with Ophelia. Ophelia was born in the US and her father began working for his citizenship working construction. Her mother took up house cleaning so that the family could afford to live and to get Ophelia into a great school district. Her father was granted citizenship and her mother began working on hers. Ophelia has always been protective over her roots in America and has always wanted to help those around her. She does have family in Mexico though they aren’t close to them they left Mexico due to her mother’s past connections to the cartel. She was raised as a devout Catholic and attended private Catholic school all the way through high school afterward she earned a scholarship to USC where she went in for premed. She spent much of her undergraduate working hard on getting into medical school and she did where she then began her internship at St. Christopher’s in the OBGYN unit it was there at the hospital that she met Tony while his wife was ill and dying from cancer. The two began a close friendship in Gloria’s final months.

She fell for the handsome single father after Gloria died and the two finally gave into their budding feelings for each other much to the dismay of Gloria’s former friends and Tony’s daughter Selina. The two began a love affair and Ophelia finished her residency and married Tony, in a small and intimate ceremony it was discovered after the wedding she was pregnant and that cause resentment to build with both Jackie Devonshire and Selina at home. Things went as smooth as she could make them and Jamal was born to two very proud and happy parents, Mason and Selina seemed to love their brother. The fighting and the resentment between herself and Selina, however, would rear its ugly head over the years and for years she tried her best to make Selina see that she was not trying to replace her mother to no avail. Eventually, it put a strain on her marriage to the point that it led to problems with her and Tony and by the time Jamal was a freshman in high school she and then intern David Rhodes began a brief affair. Selina discovered the affair and told Tony about it, her husband was devastated and she and Tony agreed to a separation which led to a divorce. Years later she still carries a torch for Tony and she has always regretted her affair with David but she also doesn’t regret that their problems started long before David with Selina.

Season 1

She and Tony tip toed around each other most of the season but were then thrown back together to help Jamal when he was arrested by the FBI for his involvement with Ronan Madden. She and Tony were horrified at how Jamal had acted out when it came to the drugs and his double life and were constantly worried for his safety, even while in police custody. She and Selina still remained at odds over her place in the family until she saw her stick up to Mason against Tony when it was revealed that he was gay. Ophelia told her ex they couldn’t be together until he apologized and accepted their son. She was relieved when Kendrick was shot and out of Jamal’s life.

Season 2

Tony and Mason eventually made up and she agreed to try again with Tony their family was finally almost complete again. Selina even eventually broke down and confessed that she was really the mother that raised her and they buried the hatchet. Tony and Ophelia remarried on Thanksgiving at Selina’s condo with all their family in attendance. She confessed to Tony that her intern Kelsey Fraiser showed great promise and she was ready to retire with him at the end of the season.
