The plane ride had been exhausting after her encounter with Jackson she had went back to her office, stares and all from his secretary and she owned that walk back. She had called Grant about their dinner meeting, made sure the staff had their suitcases prepared and called the hotel to make sure their reservation was complete the hotel staff assuring her they would have privacy for the weekend. Once on the plane though she had started to play with ideas for her maid of honor speech only to eventually try to fall sleep praying the entire staff of the Devonshire private jet didn’t see her half naked underneath her skirt. Wet as hell still and she had went as far as to pull up a blanket while she finally slept feeling Jackson ogling her the entire time too which didn’t help. Five hours later when they landed and got in the car that Grant had sent for them she took in the sights of Big Sky, Montana seeing her mother texts that the twins were fine before she felt completely at ease. Once they pulled up to lodge resort and they made their way inside to the massive semi secluded suite with a private balcony she took in the sight of the mountains and fresh air. Leaving her suitcase on the bed taking out her Ralph Lauren high neck black dress for the evening letting the wrinkles start to get out before she headed into the bathroom taking off the clothes from the office along with the chains and jumping in the shower afterwards wrapping herself into a robe. It was hard to tell where Jackson’s head was at after their encounter which made it almost even more nerve wracking in a good way.

Walking back out to the room she saw the suitcase still open and him just sitting there in one of the chairs staring at her while she went to get the rest of her outfit ready. Rummaging through her suitcase she frowned; they were on the packing list she had gone over the entire list a few days ago, like she had packed them she remembered doing it. Her bras were there, pants, shirts, a few dresses but where the fuck were her underwear? Throwing the packing cube into the suitcase she went to the second bag and did the same seeing him grinning at her which only irritated her he could be helping. “This is not funny, seriously I think I left a bag at home with my underwear and we’re supposed to be downstairs in like under an hour.” Dani said shooting daggers at him while she rummaged through the second bag pretty sure she looked like a crazy person before she tossed everything back into it. Picking up her phone and scrolling through the packing list on her phone to make sure she had actually checked it off, which she did. He still hadn’t moved from that damn chair to help her like he was almost fucking smug about it and then it dawned on her while she looked at him walking over to him. “Where are they Jackson?” When she simply looked at him that slight darkness in his eyes she leaned into him. “Give them back.”

Jackson had been on the plane ride and knew that they had to close that damn deal. He’d also been in the cloud since that office meeting. He had to make Dani see and his hunger was rampant at this point. She teased him now it was his turn. She had shown disobedience and he’d messed up but soon she’d know that. They’d get over Dru’s manipulations but right now he had to have her. It was an insatiable feeling just seeing her handling business turned him on. He fought off plenty of hardons on the plane. Soon he’d use the corporate jet and have no staff and they’d fuck all over the plane. They needed this and they needed this get away. Seeing Montana with his wife made him see how lucky he truly was. He had two beautiful children and an amazing woman to call his very own. That meant so much to him. Once checked into the resort he immediately went for her luggage and unzipped her bag pulling out her panties. Taking a deep sniff he hadn’t had her sweetness in so long. Tonight he was going to make her remember never to tease him. Never to make him wait on what he wanted.

When she came out with her robe on and her hair dripping wet. Damn it, how did she do that? Just walking around he was stiff as a rock. He picked up his glass of scotch and took a deep gulp as he stared at her, starting to panic. He wanted to laugh. Instead a smirk etched on his mouth. “You mean these?” He said twirling her panties on his finger. As he stood up he looked into her eyes as he bit the bottom of his lip. “Come here.” He growled as he looked at her. Bending over he unzipped a bag that was already inside of the room and pulled out a wooden paddle. Placing her panties inside of the bag and zipping it back up. “You thought you could just come into my office and you honestly thought you were the boss. Someone was messing with you but does that give you the right to mess with my head? Huh Dani? You have to be punished and I think we have enough time for your first punishment. Are you ready?”

Ronan sat at his desk mulling through the papers the latest Atlas Falls Chronicle spoiling that mess with Connor Hessington and designer Val Ruiz front page news, if you could call it that. The latest gang shooting placed down to the third page midsection, police had no leads on the drug deal gone bad and if it was up to him it would stay that way. He then put it down to look at the other headlines from the various papers from the New York Times to the Washington Post the stock market and local headlines and of course the nitty gritty darker side of things hidden in the pages. Rich people didn’t care about the things he was involved in they never had been, they were far too invested in the frivolous things like the celebrity scandal or the newest fad they could care less about the rest of the small people. The door opened and he saw one of his men enter handing him a piece of paper, opening it he furrowed his brow for a moment that was not a development that he saw coming. Gia was a lot of thing but he didn’t think she would have taken it upon herself to take a trip down ot Florida and worse a trip that she thought she could take and he wouldn’t find out. Someone’s little brother thought it wouldn’t get back to his sister and him.

If Gia was bold enough to go down to Florida and see someone behind his back then there was no more telling what else could happen and he needed to protect his assets normally he would have Raven do that, so on that front he would ge tin contact with their back up like Thor had warned him. He already had men watching his baby brother and Cassie but Thor didn’t need to know that he had asked to be out of the business and he would respect his brother’s wishes. He then looked at a picture of Brooke and Atticus in the paper and he simply folded the paper to not look anymore, she was safe and happy, it was what she deserved. He almost thought about calling on the pretty red head that was Dru Price but after her little outing at the Summit and all the photos that followed, he wondered if he had bit off something with her that wasn’t worth the trouble anymore. He asked around she was seeing him, Philip Montgomery, Zerick Davis and now maybe the Governor’s son, plus that pesky rumor about her and Jackson that had seemed to take off. Besides he felt like if Gia got a whiff of that he didn’t know what she would do meaning he needed to be smarter with everything including their unborn son. When the door opened again he put a file away as he saw Braden Fraiser enter the room.

“Mr. Fraiser I was a bit shocked to get your call about taking over my personal matters. I’m relieved as well of course but it did take you a few weeks to get back to me. For a second there I thought you were going to ghost me or worse use those connections you’ve built against me after our little chat.” Ronan said looking at him there was no need for him to look at the file for the casino and how they planned to wash the money there and cook the books. If Braden had taken it up on himself to visit that meant that he was here strictly as a personal legitimate business means. “Did you attend that big shindig for Lowell Devonshire too, word is your father brought those fake crocodile teas with him, it was quite moving. Lowell tried to swindle me a few times and unlike your father I read the fine print and got ahead. Honestly I don’t think Atlas Falls will be the same now that he is gone but that means that the new generation can take over. If only your father and the rest of them would move aside, it could really be fun.” Ronan finished nodding to the guard to close the door to leave them alone Braden wasn’t here to kill him.

Braden had called Ronan a few days ago before Lowell’s funeral that after he and Tamara had talked he would take Ronan on as a client at least for the legal things, he wanted someone to bail him out of jail or on murder charges he would have to find someone else. Frankly he and Tamara needed the money at the moment, he had made a lot as DA but Dylan was starting college soon, she wasn’t working after having Delilah and unlike his niece and nephew neither of his kids would be gifted something someday. He wasn’t upset at that, or maybe he was how Dani just embraced being with Jackson and the Devonshire name, and he’d been reflecting a lot on if that was why he and Selina failed so bad because he wanted to separate that with them instead of embracing it. There were other issues there too he knew that deep down but here they all were at new places in their lives and he had to provide for his family, even if that meant taking on Ronan Madden as a client. As long as it was just kept to legal things and not that dark side and if his family was never put in danger he didn’t see why it couldn’t work, that or he was desperate and too proud to take his sister’s offer of employment at DGI. When he had arrived at the warehouse it looked so normal how many times had they raided this fucking building to find nothing over his career as DA if he started counting he’d need more hands.

“I had to think about it Ronan and make sure it was the right fit for my family. Honestly I had to reconcile with myself that I’m no longer district attorney and while I had other options I needed to make my own choice this time. I think this can work as long as you don’t involve me with the other side of your business and it seemed when we spoke earlier about it you had that handled.” Braden said wondering if the chill he felt in his spine was because it felt like he was turning his back on Atlas Falls doing this or if it was the change in the weather. Part of accepting this offer was the reality that he was no longer district attorney and he couldn’t run again after that article that Greer printed that had ruined his entire career. He still had no idea who her source was for the article or how they knew that Tamara had shot Dimitri and was it really such a bad thing that she did? When Ronan asked him about the funeral he had been there who wasn’t? He almost gave him the side eye when he mentioned that the other ones like his dad should step aside. “I think my dad likes being mayor for now, that could always change. Listen you’re not paying me to come down here and cut the shit all the time. So what is so important you had me down here so early this morning.”

Merci had set up the rehab in New York and then she was going to help Skye with her apartment wherever she wanted to go. It has been tense these last few days with Jon and Skye’s official breakup. Skye told her how he poured out his heart and begged for a second no third no maybe fourth chance. It was understandable but she wasn’t heartless. The man pleaded for a shot and she chose her sanity and sobriety. That was commendable after all Skye hadn’t made the smartest choice when it came to men or relationships. Devin had been by Jon side and he had been here for her. She even brought them food at the station yesterday she saw he needed someone after that rejection. Call her softening but she was absolutely hating what was happening all of the sudden. The way Skye looked when she told her what Jon said to her. She wasn’t over it in fact she saw the love still painfully etched into her face. Adjusting the duffel bag on her shoulder she looked at Devin. “Are you positive I packed all her goodies and toiletries? I got her all the snacks for the road trip and those rehab places never have good product. My sis doesn’t have to look like she is in rehab. We’re fab bitches you know. She’s a week sober and I think she looks good what about you?” It was really sweet of Devin to take such a interest and care into us. I know we are a different combo but she really likes you for me. She tells me that all the time.”

As she got off the elevator Merci looked at Devin and smiled at him brightly. “This is going to be good for her you know? She’s finally going to get a chance to find herself and get some clarity. She was gallivanting in Europe with Esme? I hate to say it but if you think Skye is a hot mess you ain’t seen a mess until you see Esme. She’s two times the trouble and ever since Skye came back she hasn’t been the same. It’s strange but I swear when I talk to Esme she’s hiding something. Either way my sis is about to get the help she needs and that’s all we all want right?” Looking at him she stared at her diamond ring. “Devin, can I tell you something? I’ve been thinking about this long and hard but I can’t get married until she feels comfortable coming back here. Would you consider a wedding somewhere else? What about California with Rochelle?” Merci stared at her watch she had enough time to get Skye heading off and head to the church for Lowell’s services. “I don’t believe he’s really gone. Lowell really did a number on the city.”

Devin had stayed out of it for the most part the last weekend he didn’t want to pick a side and neither did Merci. He listened when Jon needed an ear to lean on and tried to support Merci with her sister too. It was commendable in his mind that Jon was trying to make it right with Skye. It just seemed maybe Skye didn’t get it or she did and just needed space on it all. Not to mention that he knew what Skey really needed was a rehab so she didn’t go off the rails and snort an entire bag of bad coke again. Jon had been so focused on that leading a new mystery it wasn’t Ronan product it was different and he actually wondered if it was Gia Falcones product regardless Skye had refused to say where she had gotten the bag. He’d spent the week helping Merci pack up Skyes’ apartment and get her things from Jon’s house it was sobering in a way for his friend he thought. Jon often looked like someone had killed his dog now and as his friend he was glad that he was leaning on him and Miranda through this entire thing with Skye. On the elevator ride up he checked a few messages and then looked over at Merci as they got off and she asked if she packed everything.

“Yes you packed everything hence why you printed the list and I checked it off while we packed everything. I think it’s a good thing that you are going to drive up with her and drop her off to get help Merci and taking a bit of time off work for you to do it, I don’t want you to worry about the rest you have some events coming up but Skye is your priority and i completely support that.” Devin said he knew that she had Zach and Mason’s wedding coming up and then the casino opening too but he wanted her to focus on her sister, that was her priority and people could understand that. When she brought up their wedding he had to take a moment to think about it Jon was going to be his best man that wasn’t even a question and while he wasn’t tied to the idea of a wedding in Atlas Falls as his family was spread out Rochelle was in California his parents were road tripping the entire US a destination wedding may just be what they needed. Away from the drama of Atlas Falls away from the craziness of it all and it was a way to hopefully respect their prospective maid of honor and best man without all the baggage. “Honestly a destination wedding may just be the ticket we all need. I know you don’t care for Jon but he’s my partner, has my back and is my best man you know? It avoiding the shitshow of their past here gets us down the aisle I am down for whatever you want to do.”

Merci paced back and forth, her eyes laser focused on Jon. He was the reason she broke. A piece of her knew Jon wasn’t the only problem at bay. Skye had given up and just threw in the towel. She just said she might want a new life in London or New York and here she was doing the sugar bugger again. She was infuriated and she was beyond livid at them both. Skye knew they were all they had and she just gave up that wasn’t acceptable and it wasn’t what she wanted. It wasn’t what she needed at all. Right now she needed her sister healthy and happy because she was happy. Merci wasn’t a kid and knew that wasn’t how life worked. That wasn’t how things happened. When someone was up, someone else had to be down. Yet it was jarring to see Skye who was doing so good the last few years fall from grace in such a way. Two ambulances arrived at the Devonshire mansion when they were rushing out of the estate and she saw them loading Lowell. Tonight was cursed. Hell maybe it was the mansion everytime they had an event there all hell broke loose. She silently prayed that Lowell would be okay because Jackie and he had been good to her. From orphan to party planner of the rich and influential. It was them who brought her that title and she appreciated it.

Looking at Devin she saw Jon’s head between his legs. He was suffering but he did deserve so much more. She wanted the pain to absorb him and take him away. She was sick of the wounded veteran bit he played. My brain is so fried that I can be awful to so many people. No that wasn’t how that worked and it wouldn’t be any longer. “I hate him.” She said so loudly it startled her. “He is sitting over there Devin and acting like he’s the victim. He pushed her and he kept pushing until she broke. Now she could be dead. The only person I have in my corner could be gone. No offense Devin but I have you but it isn’t the same. She grew up with me, she protected me, I protected her and we are family blood or not. We are all we have and she’s been through too much. She’s been through so much that it literally may have killed her. You may have killed her.” She said as Devin slowly pulled her toward the vending machines. “No don’t try and stop me from saying it Devin he hurt her! He has hurt so many people in validation of his opinion. He never considered that Skye couldn’t handle this. He never thought of anyone but him and his man pain. I’m so sick of him and I’m sorry that your best friend is acting like he has a soul all of the sudden but I saw what he did to her. He broke her and no matter what he says he’s at fault. He’s at fault right along with her.” She could feel Devin wrapping his arms around her as she exhaled. “I can’t lose her. I can’t lose my sister.”

Devin looked at Merci and his heart did go out to her and to Jon and hell even the Hessington’s at the moment. It seemed like hours since the ambulance had arrived at the estate to load Skye and then another to load Lowell when in reality it hadn’t been that long. He looked down at her as he held her before looking over at Jon who was just about still as ghost white as Skye had been, likely in shock and horror at what happened. He understood Merci’s anger at Jon and at the situation but Skye was also an adult who fed into what happened. It wasn’t like Jon had been the Jon everyone knew and loved in months. He didn’t blame either one of them for what happened, if anything he was sad and devastated for them both. For what happened and what would happen now from what he understood Skye had thrown years of sobriety away clearly in an attempted overdose. When she started to tell and scream he simply gently pulled her away and down the hall towards the vending machines. Everyone else was silent in the waiting room waiting to see what Skye’s status was Merci being riled up wouldn’t help that at all.

“I get wanting to protect your sister, she is your family, I get it I do. I’d rip someone’s head off if they dared to hurt Rochelle or my parents. But I also know that people are fucking human too and make huge mistakes, your sister is pretty high on that list and so is Jon in this entire mess. You’re not going to lose her but you need to just stop lashing out at Jon like that too, he knows he fucked up okay he’s owned that.” Devin said looking at her and wanting her to see reason when it came to Skye and Jon both of them had made mistakes and they needed to figure this out either together or apart. Jon hadn’t interrupted when he and Merci were at odds and it felt wrong to do that to him when he was in this position interject themselves into the ins and outs of their relationship. “Listen Jon could have handled it better when he found out about Miles no one is debating that or arguing that with you but don’t you think tonight he has had enough? I think all of them regret what happened with Skye and until we hear from one of the doctors the best thing that we can do is wait it out, I know that is not what you want to hear right now but that is all anyone has right now hope.” Devin finished seeing Jon still upset Whitney and Ryan sitting stoically by him in the chair. “Besides in some weird fucked up way you are all family right now.”

Gia lingered in a dark corner at the edge of the elaborately manicured gardens of the Devonshire estate. The entire place was sparkling and twinkling so it was fortunate she found this little spot where she could hide from prying eyes. From this vantage point she had an unobstructed view of Max who was chatting with Sebastian and her decrepit father. Ronan was inside the mansion living out his fantasy of being accepted into high society. He would never be like the Devonshires of the world. They’d take his money and use his connections and pretend to like him but they’d never see him as a legitimate denizen of their world. Max got everything she wanted while Gia was stuck in this ménage à plus de trios with Ronan who fancied himself as some sort of gentleman gangster. She’d left Hector inside with him, lest he take that little barmaid off to a secluded spot and fuck her brains out. She’d seen the way he looked at her in that dress. The one that left nothing to the imagination. That kiss she blew him. So much for being discreet. Hector hated babysitting Ronan and it’s what he deserved for questioning her authority previously. Changing their plans like she had brought out the whiny little bitch in Hector. For that reason she’d volunteered to give up Sebastian, temporarily, as a show of good faith because Hector thought he was a distraction. Now Ronan was making her look like a fool. They’d been so good together in the beginning then he’d broken her heart when he rejected her. She wanted to hurt him in return, but all in good time.

Right now, she was enjoying the view of Sebastian’s firm ass in that well tailored tux. She never said she wouldn’t admire him from afar. He always did fill out a tux in all the right places. She imagined taking his clothes off. Piece by piece. Running her hands then her tongue over his hard chest and those abs. His pants, dropping to floor and exposing that sexy Apollo’s belt. Sebastian wouldn’t have said the things to her that Ronan did. He wouldn’t have fucked every whore in town. But now he was infatuated with Max. She watched as Sebastian pushed the old man out of the courtyard, leaving Max behind. Out of habit, Gia moved stealthily but Max also appeared to be lost in thought and didn’t seem to see her. “Hello, Max,” Gia broke the silence as she came to stand before the other woman. She regarded Max’s swollen stomach. Pregnant with her lover’s child. Max was a man stealer but Gia couldn’t do anything about it at the moment with her promise to Hector. “I’d say lovely to see you again but it’s not really. Hector tells me the casino is coming along according to plan,” Gia said, making the point that she was now firmly established inside the casino. It still rankled her that Max had pointed that out and Ronan played dumb until she’d demanded to be included. Ronan was playing games with the wrong person. “Remember when you said Ronan was freezing me out? Turns out it was just a little misunderstanding. I would be there if I could, naturally, but I have so many irons in the fire and with this baby,” she said lovingly stroking her stomach and she smiled. “Well, I’m not taking any chances. Make no mistake though, if Hector’s there, I’m there. I know he can be a little much sometimes but he is unwavering loyal. Whatever he sees, I see. And lately, he sees you working some very long hours. I don’t think that’s good for the baby, Max.”

Max and her father had left the study inside the mansion and she pushed him through the party to look for Sebastian where she  did the best thing told him she had a moment earlier in the evening and would like to move on. He didn’t look thrilled with that answer but it was the only one that she could offer him and she was pretty sure that her father had wanted to irrupt in some weird advice session between her and Sebastian. Only for that to be thwarted when Sebastian offered to take her father for a walk when Madelien had appeared out of the blue. She had smiled happily at the distraction a little too happily if she was honest. She needed a moment to collect her thoughts and feelings, she had come to terms with her father’s impending death now more than ever and she steadied her breathing to not burst into tears all over again at it. Then there was the pesky other bit Sebastian wanting them to move onto a fucking farm and live out some farmer fantasy with the baby. She would have to find a way to navigate that she didn’t want to be married at the moment but she also didn’t want Sebastian with another woman too, besides she already felt like all his attention was already on their unborn son. So was the rest of her family and she heard the bushes rustle behind her wondering if it was one of her siblings instead she starred at Gia Falcone the woman that had kidnapped Sebastian for Jackson’s entire wedding that week, bitch had a lot fo fucking nerve.

“I didn’t realize that Ronan brought trash with him tonight, but I mean between yourself and apparently my brother’s nanny his options are pretty bleak after Brooke dumped him. If you are looking to kidnap myself or Sebastian tonight you really should rethink your strategy y mother upgraded cameras in the house and we do have a full security detail in place. The casino is coming along swimmingly without your involvement of course it’s so nice to work with Ronan I’m not sure what use you would be one it.” Max said looking at the other woman almost like she was bored with her. Was the show with her pregnant belly supposed to make her feel guilty for working and having a career? That was fine if that is what Gia Falcone aspired to be a baby maker for one of the most dangerous men in the east coast and Atlas Falls but she had her own plans that didn’t involve staying home ad being a doting mother, that was what a full time nanny was for. Her child would be provided for and cared for, of course she would love it as well but she was going to forge her own way even if that meant taking a step like Rory and starting separate from DGI as a whole, Sebastian could sit back and play house if he wanted. “I have a feeling Ronan doesn’t want you near the casino. It’s where the real people play and work. What is it that you do again other than pop up to stalk Sebastian every now and again?” She thought about Hector spying on her and almost laughed that it was none of Gia’s business what she did or how long she worked or the state of her pregnancy was concerned. “Your concern is so sweet but I assure you the baby I am carrying is totally healthy not that is any of your concern or that of your little leech. Sebastian is so excited for our son to be born. I wonder if Ronan feels the same way, I mean you are birthing the demon spawn.”
