ST. CHRISTOPHER’S

Lowell tucked in his shirt and felt like the latest rounds of tests and blood work would slow down the disease. After being alone with David he felt like his ALS was taking over. How couldn’t he his days were numbered and it felt like more and more he was growing restless with life. He could feel his soul slipping away from his body and it wasn’t as if he had no chance of stopping the illness. It was cruel to deny him a  chance to fight back. He cursed his body secretly because why couldn’t he have cancer? It was morbid to question that but this illness and disease will take him out and all he worked for would never be seen. Honestly, his mind had been on Linus deeply because of their last fight. He protected his baby brother and also kept him away from DGI America. His sins had followed him even though Linus promised he’d stop. He wondered how his mother and father would feel about their sons? It was a legit question and since time was precious he’d soon find out and that brought a chill up his spine. Walking to a water pitcher he poured him a glass of water in a crystal glass. The coldness calmed the heat on the back of his neck. Sin and secrets the two things you couldn’t hide for long. It made him feel foolish for some of the things he did.

Tonight he was reaching out to Simon to help him do his last will and testament and he’d also explain what was going on and pick his successor. Simon would be the only one who knew and that would be a secret to hold but it was what he was paid to do. Hold their secrets and protect them and this would be one of the times he desperately needed him. Walking out of the office he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Two nurses and David were trying to stop her but she looked even more ravishing than when he met her in Europe again. He was in London on business with Linus and this was what he found. Tess a grown woman and not only that but a radically stunning one. Even today when she didn’t have her signature long blonde hair and it was now a short chic cut she was striking. The feelings he still had for her were wrong and he knew it. It was horrible to love two women but they didn’t know the Tess he did. She wasn’t always so hard, so evil, and so hurt. He did that to her and he knew when a woman was scorn or fed up it was nothing you could do about it. Somehow Jackie and he had never gotten to that point and it was her grace. This Zerick lie had painted them through a dark lense and he wouldn’t wonder why she was standing by him now.

Tess saw Lowell walking out looking frail and she couldn’t help but wonder why he was in the hospital so much. She was worried, to be honest, and hadn’t even told Pierre or Forbes what her suspicion was because the thrill of something honestly being wrong with him would be legit. She might want nothing but his health to be fine. No longer willing to wait. Tess arrived at the hospital after Bliss made an offhand remark about Lowell’s appointment. Wearing a couture women’s business suit by Chanel and a Balenciaga hat with a veil covering half of her face. Standing with leather red gloves she broke free from the nurses grasps and looked at him. “We will speak immediately. We have children also Lowell shall you not forget I’m the mother of your kids also.” Tess said purposely speaking in plurals so maybe he’d catch a hint. She’d hidden Belle from the right people but Dimitri was in town, along with Pierre, and Forbes knowing the truth. That wasn’t something she wanted to get to him before she could tell him. “We need to speak immediately Lowell and I won’t take no for an answer!”

Walking to him she strutted like Gisele Bundchen knowing how much he used to love her walk. He used to say she could walk into any room and demand attention with her walk. Exhaling she touched Lowell’s face and turned to the nurses and David. “Go! We have something to discuss and I told you I’m just as important as Jackie. From now on listen to me.” Lowell let her through as she walked into the private room which was stunning. Of course, he would have a luxury private room that didn’t surprise her. She sat down on the plush leather couch and crossed her legs. “Tea please, and I don’t you think I deserve to know what is going on? You’ve lost at least twenty pounds. You look fragile and Bliss is crying about you and how she didn’t have enough time. She hung up on me after that. What the hell is going on Lowell Devonshire and don’t give me I’m not Jackie or the wife shit. I spent over thirty years as your mistress and lover. No excuses.”

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK

The funeral was covered with wall to wall factions of mobsters. Thor was almost shocked to see so many big influential people were here. Vladimir Stavridis was standing speaking with Kelly O’Connor, and Mavis Escobar was standing over speaking with other influential people. The cartel was in the building. The flow through New York was stagnant due to one person Don Falcone refused to let Madden push drugs through the city. He held a hate for father but oddly they had been invited to the old man funeral. That made him suspicious until this moment it was a goodwill gesture all around due to The Cartel stop selling to Don Falcone. It was a lot of bad blood but Gia was said to be in charge now. So her arrival as the signal of true change between the Falcone and Madden families. Thor nodded at them all with a stern glance at Vladimir who always gave him the creeps. He looked evil and that glare was so cold. It was something almost not human about that guy. Rumor had it about ten years ago he went to war with the O’Connors and it ended at the beginning of the cartel being formed. He tried to take over Cape Kenitrich from Kelly and it ended with him leaving and taking over the midwest. The truce has been lucrative for them by forming a cartel of enemies. During the infamous east coast vs west coast rap feud, it was escalated by his father going against The Bay’s very own Mavis Escobar. This blood feud died when his father did during Ronan’s courting by Kelly they brokered peace between them and Ronan became the east coast connect. It was history in the underworld.

Thor looked over at his brother and his breath was taken back. Damn nobody told them, Don Falcone, daughter looked like something out of an art portrait. She was stunning and just standing there with a veil that fell to the floor, along with a leather dress with a train longer than the veil. It was no doubt from Italy because the leather corset was impeccably made. He looked over at Ronan and wondered what he thought. She was something to look at because both of them were taken back. Thor had heard her beauty had gotten her the head of the Genovese faction her beauty caught them all off guard because she turned out to be a black widow. Thor was captivated but also cautious because plenty of men dicks had gotten them murdered. It was every day they were in the presence of a modern-day siren. He looked at Ronan and he knew what he was thinking. “Down doggy,” Thor said shaking his head.

Gia purposely ignored the two Madden heirs as they entered the funeral. Watching them pay their respects to the who’s who of mobsters in the United States and all over the world. Her father was beloved by many and hated by few. The room was hazy from cigar smoke her father’s favorite cigars from Cuba. Slowly making her rounds she saw people she hadn’t been around since she was a girl. Old hit men and others were the still in the game. Gun runners, drug dealers, and powerful politicians even sat at this funeral. Her father legitimized his business in the eyes of many. It was her grooming for the life of violence that got her ready to take over. She was now in many eyes one of the most powerful women in New York City. Manhattan was her playground but she wasn’t here for Manhattan she was here for the entire east coast. One man stood between her and that, Ronan Madden. Looking at him in person he was much more handsome than his pictures along with baby half-brother. Turning her body around she slowly slithering toward the Madden brothers. Approaching them she extended her hand which was wrapped in wrist length lace gloves and diamonds.

“Good evening welcome to the service.” Gia shook Thor hand as she leaned in to kiss both of his cheeks. Then turning to Mr. Madden her eyes locked in through the lace that covered her face. Her crimson lips painted glossily. “Mr. Madden I would like to speak with you alone. I know your brother is here. How about we all go have a drink in my office.” Basically saying that she knew he didn’t trust leaving Thor here with her men surrounding him. She sensually slinked toward the back never walking too fast or slow so neither men touched her gown or veil. Walking to her desk she pulled back the chair. Her eyes narrowed softly as she smiled at them. Carmine poured them all Manhattans drinks. “My father was a powerful man. I’m an even more powerful woman and our family history shouldn’t and if I have my way shall not stop us from making money. Money from Canada that the Genovese family has control of.”

SCOTTSWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD

Khalil Watkins stared at the street rage inside of him as he watched the reverend of their church comfort his mother a few blocks from where his brother was gunned down, without even so much as he was told a chance in hell. The cops had always been out for them here in the neighborhood Kendrick had always told him that, they either wanted to use you or send you to the fucking slammer. Cops were dirty all the time, had been for years and the people of Scottswood stuck together through thick and thin. His mother’s tears in the street brought him back down to a dose of reality, they had escaped this neighborhood and this life because of his brother. Bought them a posh house on the other side of town had been paying for private school for his younger siblings and had helped him with college. That was all gone now stolen.

Drugs had brought his brother into the world of the Madden organization but there wasn’t a lot of options for young black men from their neighborhood at the time. Especially with a mother that had spent her days with Yasmine’s mother on the corners of the streets. He didn’t even know who his father was, or who half his siblings fathers were either. Sometimes they barely ate and often times his mother starved to feed them. When Kendrick hit high school that all changed, he came home one day with money and eventually moved them away from the hood. He never asked if his brother did drugs, though Kendrick strongly discouraged them all to do it. He had listened getting good grades and excelling in sports. His brother was happiest with Gina he remembered those times. He and Yasmine had started seeing each other, sneaking around bit and they soon learned that Gina her sister was pregnant with Kendrick.

Even that would end in tragedy and he watched as the reverend tried to comfort his mother and he couldn’t stand it anymore watching her in pain and walked out the door. The street was littered with people and he continued to walk down the road towards the park and downtown he wanted to see the site. The site where is brother was callously gunned down by that asshole cop, where his life was robbed from him. Khalil looked at the people on the streets as he passed, people that Kendrick wouldn’t be able to help anymore how much had his brother given back to where they came from over the years? More than he could count more than he sometimes even cared to think about. No matter how much he tired to separate himself from this world a part would always be with him. You could take the hood out of the boy, but you couldn’t take the boy out of the hood. He waved to a few of his old crew that he recognized as he walked by a life that Kendrick had afforded him to avoid.

Gangs were after him for who his brother was back then, the street credit he could achieve but he had bigger dreams and goals and his older brother made sure he got to them. He made his way to the park and he saw them lined up the people of where he came from. Holding signs, chanting about police brutality and he wanted to join in but held back. He didn’t know the officer that shot his brother from Adam, all he knew was he was white and didn’t give his brother even a chance and when his eyes finally met the memorial that was starting near the underpass rage overcame him. Rage he wasn’t sure he knew where it came from rage at the Madden organization for dragging his brother into this, rage at the circumstances he was born into, rage at the man and higher ups that he faced everyday. He moved through the crowd to the very front watched as one of the protest leaders pointed at him and started to speak.

“They don’t even care they gunned down his brother. We have to take back our place we can’t let them do this anymore!”

Khalil watched as the crowd cheered and he nodded his head going along with her words, he drowned out the noise for a few more seconds though it felt like minutes. His eyes finally landed on a poster in the crowd and he came face to face with the man that killed his brother. He memorized everything about it, the white skin and dark eyes and then he read the name underneath the sign. Jon Harrison. He noted it to memory as he repeated the name over and over again and before he knew it his mouth opened and ti was barely above a whisper.

“Jon Harrison is a dirty cop and a killer. He killed my brother.” He whispered not even sure who he was speaking to.

Fairmont Park

Devin looked around the crime scene as the officers worked to do crowd control for he ever merging people that were showing up. As the techs began to gather evidence what a mess of course the only casualty was Kendrick’s but it didn’t have to go down like that. Kendrick had choices he could have made so that he could have been brought in there was no doubt in his mind. He saw Jon still standing there in the middle of the street watching the techs do their job and walked up to him placing his hand on his shoulder. He’d been through alot of shit in the military and Devin knew that, knew how much guilt Jon carried from those days.

“Gideon wants us down at the station to make statements. You did what you had to Jon, Ramirez is going to bag the body pretty soon. I’ll go make sure it’s done by the books if that’s ok with you.” Devin said Jon took the shot if Jon wanted to oversee everything he could that was his job and he wasn’t going to stand in the way of that. He also wanted to let Jon know if he needed to take a break and step back that was good too, in fact judging by the crowds Gideon would likely make that decision for Jon. “Miranda said she’s finishing up down the street and will be right here in a bit too. You need anything?”

“I asked like four times. I think.” Jon said looking at him. “I begged him not to make do that. I didn’t want to take another life again, unless it was someone after my own. Devin you don’t understand what I’ve seen. When um we are in Iraq those SOB’s choose to arm kids with guns. Child soldiers and they aim to kill and are ruthless. I had to kill kids man and I wanted to come home and legit make a change for my community. I didn’t want to do that Devin and it was a clean shot. I told him over and over again.” Shaking his head Jon looked at Devin. “I’m going to lose everything a white cop kills the most beloved black guy in Atlas Falls. They are axing cops for less and here I am killing someone like a idiot. Yasmine said I could have shot his arm or leg. I could have. Why didn’t I shoot his arm or leg?” Jon said punching the patrol car window in front of him.

“Dani was in danger and I had to but I didn’t want to kill anymore Devin. I didn’t want to kill after Iraq I swore no more death. Then I do this.” He said shaking a little. “Look at them.” Jon said watching the crowd of angry people faces emerging. “They aren’t going to see Dani being threatened, they are going to see a white man killing another black man. I don’t see color Devin you know that but God that man was a monster. Why are they here not celebrating this community finally coming together without the looming threat of a drug dealer. They are hating me and I just don’t get it.”

Unknown Location Scottswood Area

Yasmine opened her eyes as she stared at Dani who was tied up next to her. As she rotated her wrist which were tightly bond by rope. Her eyes were puffy due to Dani clearly crying. She was pregnant and that brought fear inside of her. How was she to escape or help Dani? This chick was just all up in the news about a abortion. Clearing her throat she smiled at Dani trying to ease the tension they both felt. If Jackson didn’t come through with those drugs what in the hell were they going to do? Yasmine knew for sure this lady wasn’t or a baby die. She also felt Kendrick wouldn’t either. As she bit down on her lip. “Glad to see you got a little rest.” Yasmine said softly.

“Look I know Kendrick and he’s not this monster Dani. He’s wolfing you know what that means? Like the little boy who cried wolf. Look I’m not trying to justify what he’s done but he’s not a monster. My mother was hooked on drugs when I was younger. She did anything she could get her hands on and smoked up my going back to school money. Man I didn’t have a pair of shoes this man took me shopping at Reginald’s. He wasn’t always like this. He wasn’t a monster because he loved me and my family. My pride did it, I jumped into this world and he has had to act accordingly to me. Do I think he’s foolish for doing some of the things he’s done to me. Absolutely, I do because he’s let the monster inside eating at him.”

Dani looked at Yasmine when she started talking to her the only thing she knew about the girl in front of her was that she dealt drugs to Jackson and was with Rory. Her mind was barely on that it was on trying to keep calm in between all the tears she had cried since this morning, all the fear she felt. Fear that was seated deep inside of her bones at what Jackson was putting her through, putting their unborn child through and for what? That was the most confusing part, what was he possibly hoping to gain by doing any of this? Her hands hurt from being tied behind her back, her head was still pounding from Kendrick hitting her there with his gun earlier. Looking through the cracked doorway at the men outside she wanted to laugh at Yasmine, there was no honor there in that room.

“Not a monster? He broke into my house, held a gun to my head, choked me until one of his goons pulled him off me and then took me from my house. He doesn’t give two fucks about me or my child, you know that and I know that. He’s one of the most wanted criminals in the state murder being something they’ve been trying to get him for for years. I don’t care how much of a family you think he is to you or your mother.” Dani bit out feeling the tears prick her eyes. She’d been in the business long enough to know that the Madden organization was something the governor and local law enforcement had been after for years. Kendrick’s name being the top of their list she shook her head at Yasmine. “You involved Jackson in this why? Pissed he wasn’t scoring from you anymore? That you didn’t get to pull one over on Rory anymore either about it?”
