SCOTTSWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD

Khalil Watkins stared at the street rage inside of him as he watched the reverend of their church comfort his mother a few blocks from where his brother was gunned down, without even so much as he was told a chance in hell. The cops had always been out for them here in the neighborhood Kendrick had always told him that, they either wanted to use you or send you to the fucking slammer. Cops were dirty all the time, had been for years and the people of Scottswood stuck together through thick and thin. His mother’s tears in the street brought him back down to a dose of reality, they had escaped this neighborhood and this life because of his brother. Bought them a posh house on the other side of town had been paying for private school for his younger siblings and had helped him with college. That was all gone now stolen.

Drugs had brought his brother into the world of the Madden organization but there wasn’t a lot of options for young black men from their neighborhood at the time. Especially with a mother that had spent her days with Yasmine’s mother on the corners of the streets. He didn’t even know who his father was, or who half his siblings fathers were either. Sometimes they barely ate and often times his mother starved to feed them. When Kendrick hit high school that all changed, he came home one day with money and eventually moved them away from the hood. He never asked if his brother did drugs, though Kendrick strongly discouraged them all to do it. He had listened getting good grades and excelling in sports. His brother was happiest with Gina he remembered those times. He and Yasmine had started seeing each other, sneaking around bit and they soon learned that Gina her sister was pregnant with Kendrick.

Even that would end in tragedy and he watched as the reverend tried to comfort his mother and he couldn’t stand it anymore watching her in pain and walked out the door. The street was littered with people and he continued to walk down the road towards the park and downtown he wanted to see the site. The site where is brother was callously gunned down by that asshole cop, where his life was robbed from him. Khalil looked at the people on the streets as he passed, people that Kendrick wouldn’t be able to help anymore how much had his brother given back to where they came from over the years? More than he could count more than he sometimes even cared to think about. No matter how much he tired to separate himself from this world a part would always be with him. You could take the hood out of the boy, but you couldn’t take the boy out of the hood. He waved to a few of his old crew that he recognized as he walked by a life that Kendrick had afforded him to avoid.

Gangs were after him for who his brother was back then, the street credit he could achieve but he had bigger dreams and goals and his older brother made sure he got to them. He made his way to the park and he saw them lined up the people of where he came from. Holding signs, chanting about police brutality and he wanted to join in but held back. He didn’t know the officer that shot his brother from Adam, all he knew was he was white and didn’t give his brother even a chance and when his eyes finally met the memorial that was starting near the underpass rage overcame him. Rage he wasn’t sure he knew where it came from rage at the Madden organization for dragging his brother into this, rage at the circumstances he was born into, rage at the man and higher ups that he faced everyday. He moved through the crowd to the very front watched as one of the protest leaders pointed at him and started to speak.

“They don’t even care they gunned down his brother. We have to take back our place we can’t let them do this anymore!”

Khalil watched as the crowd cheered and he nodded his head going along with her words, he drowned out the noise for a few more seconds though it felt like minutes. His eyes finally landed on a poster in the crowd and he came face to face with the man that killed his brother. He memorized everything about it, the white skin and dark eyes and then he read the name underneath the sign. Jon Harrison. He noted it to memory as he repeated the name over and over again and before he knew it his mouth opened and ti was barely above a whisper.

“Jon Harrison is a dirty cop and a killer. He killed my brother.” He whispered not even sure who he was speaking to.

Unknown Location Scottswood Area

Yasmine opened her eyes as she stared at Dani who was tied up next to her. As she rotated her wrist which were tightly bond by rope. Her eyes were puffy due to Dani clearly crying. She was pregnant and that brought fear inside of her. How was she to escape or help Dani? This chick was just all up in the news about a abortion. Clearing her throat she smiled at Dani trying to ease the tension they both felt. If Jackson didn’t come through with those drugs what in the hell were they going to do? Yasmine knew for sure this lady wasn’t or a baby die. She also felt Kendrick wouldn’t either. As she bit down on her lip. “Glad to see you got a little rest.” Yasmine said softly.

“Look I know Kendrick and he’s not this monster Dani. He’s wolfing you know what that means? Like the little boy who cried wolf. Look I’m not trying to justify what he’s done but he’s not a monster. My mother was hooked on drugs when I was younger. She did anything she could get her hands on and smoked up my going back to school money. Man I didn’t have a pair of shoes this man took me shopping at Reginald’s. He wasn’t always like this. He wasn’t a monster because he loved me and my family. My pride did it, I jumped into this world and he has had to act accordingly to me. Do I think he’s foolish for doing some of the things he’s done to me. Absolutely, I do because he’s let the monster inside eating at him.”

Dani looked at Yasmine when she started talking to her the only thing she knew about the girl in front of her was that she dealt drugs to Jackson and was with Rory. Her mind was barely on that it was on trying to keep calm in between all the tears she had cried since this morning, all the fear she felt. Fear that was seated deep inside of her bones at what Jackson was putting her through, putting their unborn child through and for what? That was the most confusing part, what was he possibly hoping to gain by doing any of this? Her hands hurt from being tied behind her back, her head was still pounding from Kendrick hitting her there with his gun earlier. Looking through the cracked doorway at the men outside she wanted to laugh at Yasmine, there was no honor there in that room.

“Not a monster? He broke into my house, held a gun to my head, choked me until one of his goons pulled him off me and then took me from my house. He doesn’t give two fucks about me or my child, you know that and I know that. He’s one of the most wanted criminals in the state murder being something they’ve been trying to get him for for years. I don’t care how much of a family you think he is to you or your mother.” Dani bit out feeling the tears prick her eyes. She’d been in the business long enough to know that the Madden organization was something the governor and local law enforcement had been after for years. Kendrick’s name being the top of their list she shook her head at Yasmine. “You involved Jackson in this why? Pissed he wasn’t scoring from you anymore? That you didn’t get to pull one over on Rory anymore either about it?”

SCOTTSWOOD YMCA

Kendrick looked around the crowded YMCA as the youth basketball team played, watching the ball bounce up and down the court. Watching the people from the hood that he grew up with seeing their boys playing ball. In truth some of those young men would be in the gangs down the line recruited by his own men because that is what they knew, what his men needed to pass the baton when needed to the next generation. Scottwood was going places and it would with him at the helm, soon the drugs would infect the rest of the city and they could turn to poverty and the living conditions that forced Scottswood to become what it was. Taking out his phone he saw the text alert from Rocky who was watching the house he left with no bag meaning they could get in and get the drugs. He went to text Rocky back only to stop when Loco approached him to tell him that Ronan was spotted at the club what the fuck?

He had covered his tracks with the attempt and Loco already told him that Ivan had went back to the club to turn on him back to Ronan. Others in the rally did the same and his heart raced as one of the teams made a basket, Ronan would not be pleased that he took Yasmine. Ronan wouldn’t be pleased with how he treated the girls at the club not to mention Thor would tell him everything about what happened with Philip and Cassie. Yasmine’s words came back at him that he pushed a white man out of power and now that he had that power he was not letting it go. He nodded his head at Loco and then turned around to see Merci enter the gym. He wasn’t even sure he had invited her but she knew about it and seeing how they were seeing each other or fucking, he supposed in a relationship was the right word. It wasn’t crazy for her to be here his throat tightened he had to make her leave. Ronan would want his revenge.

“I wasn’t expecting you to be here. Don’t you have some fancy party to plan for?” Kendrick said hugging her briefly before pulling back. Things had been good between them but he knew in the life he led that it never lasted, it was why he pushed women away after Gina. He wouldn’t see another woman he cared about in a casket and his mind drifted back to Yasmine what was he doing? Yasmine was Gina’s sister, but she had betrayed him by going to Jamal behind his back and giving the stash to Jackson to move. “You really shouldn’t be here right now.”

Merci was a little annoyed that Kendrick didn’t invite her to some community event. Next time she’d help and give this little YMCA event a little class. Looking around the sweaty gym she saw so many faces. The way he approached her she felt like something was off. Playfully she punched his shoulder the man was so much taller than her. A smile appeared on her face. “Look people don’t know me and you are dating. You’ve made that very clear dude so I’m here to support a friend. I want to support the cause. These young men you help deserve and here’s a donation to the YMCA.” She saw a small child run up and hug Kendrick. “He’s adorable.” She smiled as she saw all the love for him and she couldn’t help but wonder why he went into the mob and gangster lifestyle.

FBI SAFEHOUSE

When Jamal walked into the safehouse. He’d texted Yasmine back and informed her she would be free. Not only that but she informed him that Kendrick was going to be on the other side of town tonight. After he checked in he was going to meet Kendrick and finally end everything. Walking through the building he heard his momma screaming at what sounded like was his father. As he opened the door Devin face was flushed with frustration. Shaking his head he knew what was about to happen. They were going freak once they saw him. Seeing his father turn around it was almost instantaneous with rage in his eyes. Jamal had been texting Mason and when he caught Simon punk ass it was a wrap. He was going to beat the hell out of him. His fist bawled up just thinking about it. His father the way he embarrassed Mason he could slap the taste out of dad mouth. Then he’d really be being disrespectful.

As he walked in he went into the kitchen the silence was enough to make him jump out of his skin. His eyes narrowed as he turned to his dad. “What did I do something wrong? Or the two officers who supposed to be watching me? Blame them I went out for some damn air so can everyone calm down?” He knew he had to get out one last time so he had to play this one smart. “And unless any one of you three want to have sex with me. Then I suggest you chill pops and ma. But Mami since you looking so mad at me did you asking what he did to Mason? Or hell let’s discuss why we don’t even talk to Devin side of the family. Like I’m sick of all of this shit being trapped that is.” Jamal grabbed a apple. “I promise I won’t leave I just needed to feel something other than trapped.”

Ophelia gripped the coffee mug in her hands she had called Tony when she found Jamal not in his room again and the panic set in. Tony arrived and they agreed to call Devin before alerting the Feds that Jamal was missing. Her life was falling apart all over again what if the mob go thim? What if Kendrick or Ronan had found out where the safehouse was? What if he was lying in the street bleeding out somewhere or worse what if he had been taken quickly and without them getting to at least say goodbye? Tony’s hand on her back eased her with the fear while Devin debated about what to do or how to find Jamal without risking his deal it wasn’t like could put out an APB on him without them knowing. When Jamal came in the door though she shot Tony and Devin a glare the FBI wasn’t doing their job if he could come and go without being noticed.

“Calm down you aren’t supposed to leave the house, it’s dangerous they are looking for you! I won’t calm down I am your mother and you’re supposed to be here until Ronan and Kendrick are off the streets.” Ophelia said angrily at first and then emotion overcame her as she pulled Jamal into her arms. No tears came though they wanted too her worst fear was not true he was alive, breathing in her arms. Ophelia looked over at Tony at the Mason mention what was going on? “This is not about Devin or anything else do you know how I felt? Thinking that they had you or worse?”

Tony hung his head when Jamal mentioned what was going on with Mason he only had one son now, no one needed to know that just yet. He wasn’t sure if it was shame in how he treated Mason or shame in what Mason was at this point. He know knew though that Jamal knew meaning Selina probably did was well. The issue at the moment wasn’t that though it was Jamal sneaking himself out of the safehouse when he knew there was a bounty on his head. A dangerous bounty no less. He tried to not let that anger show too much he didn’t need another blow up with Ophelia and he shot Devin a look. No they were not close but he knew that as his nephew Devin would look out for his cousin and make sure that Jamal came back at least alive and still had his deal in tact with the Feds.

FBI Safehouse/Unknown Street Atlas Falls

Jamal stood outside of the dorms as the winter air blew against his skin. It had been so long since he had been here. It almost looked like another person’s home as he felt the brutal winds blowing past him. He knew that if he didn’t do something that his family would forever be looking over their shoulders. It wasn’t a good feeling knowing something you’d done had set up his family for self destruction. Folding his arms he walked into the dorms with his hoodie on. As he unlocked his dorm door and moves his chest by his bed. With one move he pulled up the floorboard and finally saw his leather book bag. There he unzipped the bag and found all the bricks of coke were there. It was molly, ecstasy, meth, coke, and prescription pills. It was more than 2 million street profits. He was going to shut everyone up as he found a solution to the problem that he had. No matter if his sister had Kyan fix this he could still be killed for his betrayal. If Kendrick and Ronan knew for a fact he was never to say anything.

Looking around he saw a picture of Money, Ivan, and himself. They were his boys and Money was gone, and Ivan was still in the mix. No doubt he wouldn’t be lost in this game. This game that he played everyone so well in. It was now called life or death and in his solicitude with the law the streets would have to know he wasn’t a snitch. Not only that but Yasmine deserved a chance even if it wasn’t with him. She was getting a raw deal and they’d never let her out. Not unless someone got her out of the game once and for all. This was what he had to do to make it right. To make everyone come away with their hands clean. As he zipped up the bag he texted Yasmine. Looking outside his truck was still there and so was his old identity. Who was he fooling? No matter what he did, Jamal didn’t belong in this lane. He wasn’t a gangster or thug but he was smart. He was smart enough to wheel and deal.

She was at the club a place he didn’t want to go. He simply informed her to meet him around the next corner. Walking out of the dorm he ran down the steps. When Bridget a prep from the Valley Tresca area approached him.
