Merci was in and out of foster care most of her life abandoned as a baby by her parents she grew up in the same group home that Skye did. One of the things she learned early on was that she had to take care of herself. She and Skye formed a close bond as sisters that were cut from the same cloth and she considers her very much so family. In high school she got decent grades and then enrolled in the local community college. It was there she and Skye began to party and she did coke for the first time. Unlike Skye she never became addicted but she did experiment on and off.

She worked on and off in college and when Skye began her affair with Jackson, she and Skye participated in a threesome with him while her boyfriend slept it off on the couch. After that she put her distance between herself and Jackson seeing the destructive path her best friend was on. She and Neil also broke up when he discovered the encounter. She eventually graduated college and when pictures of her liaison with Jackson were leaked she took control of her life and funded her own company.
